It's our belief that social and environmental responsibility is our responsibility. We have a commitment to minimizing our footprint on the planet through careful consideration of our business practices, partnering with companies who share our philosophy, environmental initiatives, and giving back to society. We believe we have a duty to walk our talk and while we’re always looking for ways to improve, here are some of the things we’re doing to help:
1. By supporting organic & natural brands as much as possible, we’re contributing to increasing demand for organic and sustainable farming practices. Wild-harvesting, biodynamic and organic farming holistically support the earth and local communities worldwide
2. As much as possible, we buy products with ingredients that come from renewable resources. Planting trees helps purify the air we breathe and reduces CO2 emissions.
3. We feel strongly about encouraging use of bioplastics or glass for packaging. Plastics that incinerate cleanly, plastics that can be recycled or upcycled, plastics that are biodegradable and those that come from non-gmo or organic sources, make a significant impact toward reducing pollution and sustaining the earth.
4. We strive to purchase from companies that support fair trade, and socially and environmentally responsible practices - as well as supporting local farms and products made in the US. Some of the ingredients you’ll find here come from sustainable developments in third world countries that ensure fair wages and safe working conditions for the indigenous people who manage them.
5. We are very proud to purchase green certificates from 3Phases Wind and Solar Energy Services that offset our carbon footprint by 100%. Anyone interested in supporting alternative energy sources can visit www.green-e.org to find a reputable company near you.
6. All of our packaging supplies, labels, marketing materials and swing tags are all made from recyled or post consumer waste paper products and we sell back large boxes to ensure re-use. We use only corn-starch peanuts for shipping and we re-use all biodegradable peanuts that are shipped from our suppliers to us.
7. All printing is done by printingforless.com using non-toxic soy or vegetable based inks on non-chlorine bleached, water based coated paper stock & environmentally sensitive printing practices. We use non-bleached, organic cotton bags for our product shipping, manufactured according to fair trade laws.
8. We would eventually love to close the loop on our waste streams and are constantly looking for ways to improve our practices.
9. We love that most of the companies we deal with give back to the environment in one form or another - either via direct donations to groups that sustain the planet, save forests, or plant trees - through to support of local & indigenous communities by purchasing raw ingredients from them.
