COOL CONTRAST. While this may look ‘cooler than thou’, you too can tap into a darkly glamorous and slightly tough look with strikingly strong eyes and a nude lip. The stark contrast in tones plays well alongside a well-shaded and sharp looking cheekbone – the key here is to make sure you play up one feature and don’t strip back to completely neutral, or you’ll look washed out rather than edgy & sophisticated. Wearing an eye this dramatic requires an equally strong confidence to carry off, but make sure any drama is limited this holiday season to putting on a bold face and a spectacular dress!
Julianne Kaye, from our legendary 'beauty green team', tells you how to perfect the smokey eye, and what products you need to complete the picture:
"When attempting a smokey eye, I find that it's best to do the eyes first before the foundation because dark, heavily pigmented colors have a tendency to get all over, leaving you with unsightly raccoon eyes. Another great tip is to place a tissue or business card under the eye as well.
1. First apply Alima Satin Matte Black Eyeliner with a damp, rounded tip, flat eyeshadow brush. The dampness of the brush helps lock in the color and keep the shadow on your eyes, not dropping all over your face. You can also use a slate gray color or dark brown, depending on the feel that you're going for.
2. After you've rounded out the eyes with the wet shadow, take a fluffy crease brush like Alima Taklon Makeup Brush #39 and work a warm color like Alima Luminous Shimmer Eyeshadow in Tigereye into the crease. Blend this really well for an nice ombre effect. You want the shadow to go from dark to light.
